Dr. Johanna Choremis

Educational Background
Dr. Johanna Choremis completed her medical degree as well as a residency in ophthalmology at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She subsequently completed her fellowship training at Tufts University in Boston where she learned state-of-the-art techniques in the fields of cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.
Professional Experience
Dr. Choremis has extensive experience in intraocular procedures. She has performed numerous research projects in the field of refractive surgery, and has made presentations at a variety of prestigious ophthalmic conferences in the United States. As an assistant professor at both McGill University and the University of Montreal, Dr. Choremis directly teaches medical students and opthalmologists-in-training. In addition, she is the Chief of Cornea Service at the University of Montreal.
Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Choremis has been devoted to research throughout her career. During medical school, she received four research grants from the Medical Research Council of Canada and the Pharmaceutical Medical Association of Canada. She was then invited to participate in research in Palo Alto, California, in an institute affiliated with Stanford University. During her residency, she received 1st prize at the McGill Ophthalmology Research Day for her work in diabetic retinopathy. Most recently, Dr. Choremis received grants from the E.A. Baker Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness to perform pioneering work in conductive keratoplasty, a relatively new technique in refractive surgery. In addition to her research, she has also written several articles for peer-reviewed journals.
