Educational Background

Dr. Samir Jabbour earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiology (BSc) and Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MDCM) with great distinction from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Montreal, where he served as chief resident. Following this, he pursued two years of fellowship training in cornea, anterior segment, and refractive surgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London, England. Dr. Jabbour is board‑certified in ophthalmology in both Canada and the USA. Additionally, he holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in epidemiology and biostatistics from Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts.

Professional Experience

Dr. Jabbour has extensive experience in refractive corneal procedures such as LASIK, PRK, and PTK, as well as lens-based procedures like Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), Phakic Intraocular Lens (IOL), and cataract surgery. He is an expert in managing keratoconus and corneal ectasia, offering treatments like Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL) and combined CXL + T-PRK surgery.

Dr. Jabbour currently serves as a cornea, cataract, and external disease specialist at the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). He is also an assistant clinical professor at the University of Montreal and an adjunct clinical professor at McGill University. As Fellowship Director of Cornea and Anterior Segment at CHUM, he trains the next generation of corneal specialists. Dr. Jabbour is deeply committed to the clinical and surgical education of medical students and residents at both university centers.

Dr. Jabbour’s research has been featured in top peer-reviewed journals, including Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO), and Journal of Refractive Surgery. He has been awarded numerous research grants and has actively participated in clinical trials in Canada, the USA, and the United Kingdom. Additionally, Dr. Jabbour serves as an external reviewer for several prestigious journals, such as the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Cornea.

He has presented his work at numerous international conferences, including the annual meetings of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS). Dr. Jabbour has also led instructional courses at these conferences and has been invited to speak in various countries. Furthermore, he has played an organizing role in several national and international events, including the University of Montreal’s EOUM and the Cornea Focus committee’s meetings in London.

During his training, Dr. Jabbour received multiple awards for his academic excellence, earning scholarships and recognition from institutions such as Harvard University, the University of Montreal, and CHUM. Currently, he serves as an active member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and acts as a spokesperson to raise awareness about public health issues related to ophthalmology. Dr. Jabbour’s expertise has been featured on several Canadian radio and TV shows, as well as in numerous articles.
